The railway connection between the city of Volos and the mountainous area of Pelion took place at the beginning of the 20th century and was for many years the main means of transporting both goods and people from the commercial centre of Volos to the villages of Pelion. Today, the Pelion train is a monument of historical and cultural heritage of the place and unique railway architecture, as it moves on one of the narrowest railway lines in the world with a width of 60 cm, while its legendary name “MUNTZOURIS”, due to the smoke it left in its passage, is used by the locals to this day.
