One of the most well known Volos tours is the Classical Tour in Pelion. Portaria and Makrinitsa, always hospitable, welcome visitors with handmade sweets and serve coffee under the plane trees overlooking the beautiful Pagasitikos bay. Chania stands at the highest point of Pelion in forests of chestnut and beech trees, Kissos, a traditional mountain settlement is just a few kilometers from the tourist resort of eastern Pelion, Agios Ioannis, with the blue waters of the Aegean Sea and the sandy beaches of Papa Nero, Plaka and the bay of Damouchari, which is the only natural harbor of the region. Tsagarada, the famous head village of Pelion and the villages of Central Pelion, Milies, Vizitsa, Pinacates, Agios Georgios, impress with their rich nature, the running waters from the springs of Pelion, the cobbled streets, the 19th century mansions and the innumerable chapels with their interesting frescoes. On the coastal front we find the picturesque fishing villages of Kala Nera, Gantzea, Agria , with organized beaches, family accommodation, taverns by the sea.
Short description of the tour
A visit to the cosmopolitan villages of West Pelion, Portaria and Makrinitsa, a tour of the cobbled streets, the famous Centaurs’ Path, the squares and the chapels with their unique frescoes. We continue to Chania, the most mountainous settlement of Pelion, at an altitude of 1,190 meters, with one of the oldest ski resorts in our country on the peak of Agriolefkes and the first mountain sanatorium in Greece. In Kissos Pelion we admire the church of Agia Marina in Agios Ioannis, enjoy swimming in the blue waters of the Aegean Sea and taste Pelion recipes by the sea. In Tsagarada we take a photo at the oldest plane tree in Europe, 1000 years old in the square of Agia Paraskevi, while in Milies we see the historic railway station, the I. Ν. of the Pammegiston Taxiarches and the Miletus School, founded in 1814 by the scholars Anthimos Gazis, Gregorios Konstantas and Daniel Filippidis, which functions as a library. In Vizitsa and Pinacates we admire the breathtaking view of the Pagasitikos Gulf, the imposing mansions, the blooming gardens, the picturesque cobbled streets. In a long coastal straight, we meet successively the settlements of Kala Nera, Gantzea and Agria to arrive late in the afternoon in the city of Volos.
